Persephone “Seph” Carano, the main character of the Cyber Case series, is a highly skilled incident responder for the Cyber Security Agency (CSA)—she’s the diplomat and field commander who is called into action when the digital world catches fire. She’s recognized at CSA as a value asset, able to break through walls of mistrust and legal barriers to gain the cooperation of victimized companies and government agencies. By working together with the victims, she is able to expose the cyber criminals and neutralize their threats.

Operating out of the CSA’s Manhattan office, Seph spearheads an elite team consisting of gifted analyst Zack Laski and meticulous forensic expert Theo Garcia. Her team confronts the most sophisticated cyber threats—from state-sponsored espionage rings to elusive cyber cartels.

The relentless pressure of her mission places a strain on Seph’s life. Driven by an intense sense that she always could do more to uncover a hacker’s true identity or prevent a breach, her work-personal life balance is virtually nonexistent. She frequently spends long days at sites where cyber breaches occurred, or stays late in her office glued to glowing computer screens. Her main comfort is time spent with her younger sister, Serenity, a poli-sci grad student at NYU. It’s in these quiet moments with Serenity that Seph renews her commitment to keep fighting the digital darkness.
